2024 Splendid Sichuan Los Angeles Show

From September 17 to 19, 2024, the “Cultural China – Splendid Sichuan” art troupe visited Los Angeles, California. On the morning of September 18, the troupe presented an art show at the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center, offering an authentic cultural experience that highlighted the unique charm of Sichuan for students of various ethnicities in the San Fernando Valley.

This event was organized by the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, co-hosted by the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center and Chinese Culture Development Center. More than 20 artists from top-tier performance institutions, such as the Sichuan Song and Dance Theater, presented two captivating shows featuring the unique flavor of Sichuan. The performances took place from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM for 570 students from the 2nd, 3rd, and 10th grades.

Sichuan artists curated a program that included Drama Dance A Hundred Flowers Competing for Beauty, a lively Emei Martial Arts & Kung-fu Tea Ceremony, and the mesmerizing Puppet Show: Dance of the Long Silks and Puppet Calligraphy Art. The world-famous Sichuan Opera Face-changing was another highlight. For high school students, the troupe added Dashing Women Warriors, narrating the story of Mulan joining the army in place of her father, Acrobatics Ballet on Shoulder, Tibetan Folk Song Duet, and the Chinese Classic Dance Rainy Alley to the program, encapsulating more of Sichuan cultures

The event concluded with a song and dance performance titled The World is a Circle of Friends, through which the performers conveyed a vision of harmonious cultural integration. After the performances, the troupe gifted panda souvenirs from Sichuan to the students. Vaughn Next Century Learning Center, whose G3 Academy with the panda as its mascot, also organized a panda-themed graffiti activity, where students joined the performers from China in celebrating the rich Bashu culture and diverse traditions.
