2008 Confucianism In Modern Chinese Culture With Yu Dan

On August 2, 2008, Yu Dan, a renowned scholar and professor of Beijing Normal University, was invited by the Los Angeles Chinese Culture Development Center to give a speech on Chinese culture at the Los Angeles China Press Center. This event was warmly welcomed by hundreds of local Chinese. Yu Dan also gave a lecture on “Traditional Oriental Culture and Modern Outlook on Life” at UCLA on July 31.

Yu Dan is a Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Media at Beijing Normal University. In 2006 her lectures on Confucianism appeared on CCTV’s popular primetime show, Lecture Room, transforming her into a cultural icon.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Yu Dan is professor of media studies at China’s Beijing Normal University. She is also assistant to the Dean, Faculty of Arts & Media, as well as the Department Chair of the Film & Television Media Department.  Yu managed to become a household name in China because she abridged the works of Confucius and Zhuangzi to make it appear relevant to laymen with “colloquial re-wordings and vivid short stories”。
